    Fiber Cut

We want to say thank you to our Eagle County customers for your patience Wednesday and Thursday while we dealt with two separate fiber cuts, both caused by the same construction crew working on a (very large) underground pipe installation for the airport hangar expansion.

The first occurred at about noon on Wednesday, Sept 12, and cut our backbone connecting our data center to the Chatfield neighborhood which also carries our connection to the Internet. Fortunately the contractor was one we have worked with and they very quickly responded to dig out the area of the fiber cut and prepare it for repair. Unfortunately we were not able to get a fiber splicer crew on site until the next morning, Sept 13. Around 10am our fiber was repaired.

And then unfortunately 20 minutes later the same crew then cut the main CenturyLink fiber connection out of Eagle County - this one also affected many long-haul connections between Denver and Grand Junction, as we heard from numerous carriers their services were down.

CenturyLink was able to repair their cut cable about 2:30pm on Thursday.

We know fast, reliable Internet access is a critical piece of every person's life and business' lifeblood. We are working on plans to bring true, redundant Internet connectivity to Eagle County. Stay tuned here for more information.

Some WiMAX customers have reported that Netflix pauses, particularly during busy network times. San Isabel contacted Netflix about this, and they said that the minimum speed necessary to run Netflix is 3Mbps. For High Definition (HD), the minimum is 5Mbps. If you are experiencing this issue, try pausing the movie for a few minutes, then resuming.

San Isabel's WiMAX service provides speeds up to 3Mbps.
